Therapy and Consultation Services

Therapy involves coming into a comfortable and private office setting with a professional who is well trained to listen and work with you on any problem area or concern that you have. Information is kept confidential. (There are a few exceptions to confidentiality, required by law, which are discussed with you at the first meeting.)  My office is located in a large building where there are many people coming and going, which helps with client confidentiality.

Although talking about one’s problems might not be easy at first, usually in just one or two sessions the process of therapy allows the client to feel more comfortable. Through this process, the therapist can help the client understand more deeply some of the reasons they might be doing the things they want to change.

Therapy:  An initial therapy session is 60 minutes.  In that session I would obtain background information, understand some of your concerns, and establish goals to work on together.  Once the initial session is over, you would have an idea about the next steps and what would be needed to make some changes. You can choose to schedule another appointment or not.  If you do decide that our initial appointment and the feedback provided was helpful to you, we would schedule another appointment.  My approach to therapy is very behavioral (which means we work on behaviors, learning what types of things are reinforcing those behaviors)  and cognitive behavioral (which means recognizing unhealthy thoughts and cognitions, and learning positive and healthy thoughts).  In addition to providing you with feedback, I provide a list of resources to help you start making changes right away.

Consultation:  A one-time consultation is another option.  I obtain background information from you, and provide relevant feedback to help you.  A consultation lasts 60 minutes, and in addition to feedback, I provide a list of resources to help you start making changes right away.
